BLACK ENTREPRENEUR BLUEPRINT SHOW NOTES – EPISODE # 535
Many entrepreneurs and creators are making the mistake of building their business on rented land (social media). On today’s show I’m going to show you why and how you need to deplatform your followers and put them into your own ecosystem.
How To Deplatform Your Social Media Followers
The easiest and most efficient way to deplatform your social media followers and get them on your platform is by using a lead magnet to gather more information from them like their name, email address, and phone number. A great lead magnet is a piece of content that is beneficial to your audience like a tutorial video, a checklist, or a case study. Once you have this information you can now communicate with them on one of your owned platforms like your email database, website, newsletter, podcast, or video that you host on your site.
Why You Want To Deplatform Your Social Media Followers
1 Control – You don’t control any social media platform, and you can get kicked off at any time losing all your followers and the ability to communicate with them. (YouTube channel getting shut down by computers, breach of terms of service, etc.)
2 Bring Them Into Your Ecosystem – your ecosystem is a combination of platforms that allow you to communicate with your audience at any time with no restrictions. Your ecosystem can consist of your email database, a newsletter, a podcast, a website or blog, your own hosted videos, online courses, your community, and so on. The constant touchpoints will allow your connection to your audience to grow.
3 No Restrictions – There are no restrictions on what you can say or sell. Many social media platforms restrict your messaging and the products you can sell like firearms, alcohol and tobacco, weed, and weapons. When you own the platform such as an email database you can say and promote anything you want without restriction. For example: you can’t advertise weapons on Amazon.
4 Connect At Any Time – When you have your audience on your owned platform you can communicate with them at any time in multiple formats. This accessibility is critical when you want to grow and build a sustainable business. You can create email sequences, promote your products and or services and get valuable feedback from your audience by using quizzes or surveys.
5 Ownership – The most important aspect of deplatforming your audience is that of ownership. You now own the audience as opposed to renting the audience on someone else’s social media platform. You own the data and the data is the most important aspect of your business.
